Notes

'No ship could ever get to this pub but small barges could almost reach it, for it is located near the tidal stretch of the Ouseburn in Newcastle. The setting makes it a favoured location for a ‘quick half', almost beneath the Byker Road Bridge of 1878, and close to the Ouseburn railway viaduct of 1838, partly rebuilt in 1869/70.'
